En découdre – 4 Perspectives on Thread

2 July – 18 September 2026 *

Presented as part of the 8th edition of the Beauté(s) Clermont-Ferrand Textile Biennal, En découdre – Four Perspectives on Thread brings together the work of four artists whose distinct practices converge around a shared material and a common field of enquiry: thread, textile and the memory contained within matter.

More than a simple material, thread is a powerful metaphor. It connects, repairs, binds and transmits. It carries traces of individual and collective histories, of inherited gestures and enduring forms of craftsmanship. Through embroidery, glass, painting and photography, Lou Salamon, Théo Beaumont, Michel Vicario and Stefano Bianchi each explore the subtle relationships between materiality, memory and perception.

In Lou Salamon’s embroidered works, thread becomes an organic and poetic language through which fragility, imagination and the living world intertwine. Théo Beaumont transforms spun glass into delicate structures that evoke woven textiles while capturing and diffusing light. Michel Vicario reclaims vintage household linens, inscribing them with sensual human figures that imbue these familiar fabrics with new layers of memory and meaning. Through photography, Stefano Bianchi reveals the overlooked beauty of humble everyday objects, inviting renewed attention to the poetry of the ordinary.

Across these diverse approaches, the exhibition explores processes of transformation, displacement and revelation. The works challenge our perception of familiar materials and question the capacity of art to uncover the extraordinary within the everyday. Together, they create a dialogue between inherited traditions and contemporary sensibilities, between material presence and imagined narratives.

En découdre invites visitors to follow the visible and invisible threads that connect objects, memories and human experience, offering a renewed perspective on beauty and on the stories embedded within the materials that surround us.
